Description

Tintagel is a comfortable holiday home with magnificent views of the Indian Ocean rollers breaking on to Wilderness beach at the Touw River mouth. This is a place to relax, reclining on the patio with the lagoon stretching into the distance on your left. On your right you see the village green and the luxuriant gardens of Wilderness. Behind are the forested slopes of the mountain, and in front of you, the sea. Once you have settled in, you hardly need to use your car. Everything is within walking distance: the beach, the river, the forest, the shops and the restaurants. Wilderness Beach stretches forever. You never need feel crowded, even at the height of the season. You can always find an expanse of beach with no one in sight.

Wilderness itself is a dear little hamlet situated in the heart of the Garden Route, along the south-western coast of South Africa. It is approximately four and a half hours from Cape Town and three hours from Port Elizabeth. The N2 highway between the two cities runs through The house has 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom. There are 2 bathrooms (1 is en suite).

The living area is designed on an open plan, with lounge / dining room / TV room and kitchen leading off each other. Cooking has never been this much fun. You can chop onions at the counter and survey the whales or dolphins

frolicking in the sea, or you can turn the other way and see Knysna loeries preening in a milkwood tree or chorister robins fluttering in the bush.

The living area leads on to a wood and tiled patio, with a barbecue/braai area. There is also a Weber in which to braai.

The garden is on a slope, both front and rear. Plants tumble over each other in happy exuberance. Everything grows wild in the Wilderness – even pulled weeds continue to grow in the path if you turn your back. There are steps up the mountainside where you can sit on a bench, high above the madding crowd and contemplate the beauty all around. There is a 24hr Monitored Alarm but this is a quiet corner of the world and the little crime that is reported is usually opportunistic.

Built in 1881, Tintagel is located in the heart of the fashionable Kloof Street precinct of historic Gardens.

This charming little Victorian villa has been carefully restored in authentic period detail, preserving all the elegance of a bygone age, yet equipped with all the amenities of a modern guesthouse.

Surrounded by upwards of 40 restaurants, cinemas and shopping centres, Tintagel is a 15-minute walk from central Cape Town, either through the beautiful seventeenth century oak-lined Government Avenue and Company Gardens, or via the bohemian Long Street with its vibrant night-life.

Directions

Follow the N2 highway from the airport and circle the city, either via the M3 de Waal Drive or M62 Eastern Boulevard to Buitengracht Street. At the Buitengracht/Buitensingle Street intersection follow Buitengracht St in the direction of Table Mountain for 50m, to where the road forks and goes into a slight dip (at this point Buitengracht St changes its name to New Church Street). Tintagel is situated at no. 90 directly opposite the T-junction with Park Rd., immediately past the two of the biggest trees in Cape Town (see picture). (If you miss us first time around, circle the block by turning right into Milner Road, again right into Upper Buitengracht St, and back into New Church St.)
