DescriptionProtea Farm is situated in the famous KOO valley, 29km from Montagu in the heart of the scenic Route 62. Due to the cold climate and winter snow. the valley provides the perfect conditions for producing apples and pears. During this time proteas also blossom wild on the mountain. Protea Farm offers something special, throughout each season. From the beautiful colours of the orchards during autumn, to icy winter nights snuggling in front of a fireplace, right through to the beautiful blossoms of spring, and vibrant summer days of fun such as swimming in the farm lake, beautiful hiking trails as well as idyllic territory for mountain biking. In 1985 the farm started its legendary tractor excursions up the Langeberg mountain. When you fall in love with the peaceful surroundings of the farm, there are four private cottages that can be rented. The adventurous can take their 4x4 on the open mountain trails and fully experience the outdoors.
Accommodation Cottages
Situated in the middle of untouched nature, the farm offers 4 self catering cottages, where you can relax and de-stress in tranquil surroundings. These rustic cottages are equipped with all the "mod cons" except a TV!
Cottages must be hired for a weekend for both Friday and Saturday nights. Long weekends also need to be booked for the duration of the weekend.
Pine Tree Cottage The Romantic Weekend Spot Placed on the edge of one of the farm dams, this peaceful cottage is perfect for couples looking to spend undisturbed time together. If you have to, you can bring the kids along; there is sleeping place for up to 3 children in the small loft. Cottage is self catering and bedding is supplied for one double bed Doll House This old watermill was the first building to be converted into a private cottage.This little getaway is situated next to the beautiful fruit orchards, close to the dormitory, farm's workshed and farm house. It sleeps 2 adults and 1 - 3 children, ideal for a family. This cosy little cottage is also fitted with a fire place for those chilly romantic nights! Waterblommetjie Cottage Perched over one of the farm dams, this double size timber cottage is ideal for 1 or 2 families sharing a holiday together.Cottage sleeps a minimum of 4 people and a maximum of 6 adults or 4 adults and 4 children. The cottage is self catering and bedding is supplied for 2 double bed only. Panorama This rustic style cottage is perfectly suited for larger families. With short hiking trails and a wild waterfall close by, it lends itself to that perfect getaway to commune with nature, not to mention the spectacular views of both the Muskadel and Koo Valleys. The facilities are also great for companies to hold small Indaba's, in tranquil surroundings allowing focussed discussion. The cottage is a self-catering unit with bedding provided for 1 double bed only. Dormitory The large farm building is ideal for large groups of up to 46. The minimum number of guests is 20.The kitchen has all the necessary appliances to prepare meals, so feel free to bring your own food. Some of the activities provided on the farm are; 1. There is an outside braai facility, as well as indoor eating area.
You must bring your own bedding. The Dormitory is only hired to schools or church groups, so don't push your luck!

Cost to hire The Dormitory It will cost R500 per night for a group of 20 people. Thereafter R20 per person per night. If only occupying for one night over a weekend, a R100 cleaning service fee will be applicable. Panorama It will cost R570 per night for a group of 5 people
DirectionsFrom Cape Town Take the N1 towards Worcester. Option 1 Stay on N1, pass Worcester through the Hex Valley (De Doorns) up the Hex River pass. 50 km from Worcester, look out for the sign R318 to Montagu. Turn right towards Montagu. Stay on the R318 for another 50 km. You will go down a pass called Rooihoogte into the Koo valley. Drive through the valley. You will find the farm entrance on the right hand side of the road. This is just before Burgers Pass. Option 2 Turn right at Worcester follow the signs to the R62, towards Robertson, continue in the direction of Ashton and then Montagu. Once in Montagu, turn left and then the first right into Bath Street, (road towards the Avalon Springs). You will pass the police station on the right hand side. Keep on theR318. At the top of the Burgers Pass (29 km from Montagu) you will see farm entrance on the left hand side |
